Setup

  1. Pairs: an attacker and a tagger in a bib, starting side by side.
  2. A coach with a ball stands 8 m in front, with a lead cone either side 6 m apart.

How it runs

  1. On 'go', the attacker steps hard one way, then sprints to the other cone.
  2. The coach passes ahead to the cone; a catch before the tag scores a point.
  3. The attacker passes back, the pair swap jobs and the next pair goes.

Coaching points

  • Sell the fake: a big step and a dip of the shoulder.
  • Push off the outside foot to change direction fast.
  • Call for the ball and show a hand where you want it.
  • Taggers: a gentle one-hand touch on the back or shoulder, never a push.

Common mistakes

  • A tiny fake that the tagger ignores.
  • Running in a curve instead of a sharp cut to the cone.
  • Looking at the floor instead of at the coach and the ball.

Say it: “Fake, push, sprint, call.”

Make it harder

  • The attacker can lead to either cone, and the coach waits to see which.
  • Move the cones further apart.

Make it easier

  • Tagger starts two steps behind.
  • Walk the dodge first, then jog, then sprint.
