Setup

  1. Mark 8 × 8 m squares with four cones, one per group of four.
  2. Three attackers spread around the square, one defender in a bib.

How it runs

  1. Attackers pass to each other; the defender tries to touch or intercept the ball.
  2. Netball rules: land and hold, 3 seconds to pass, defender stays 0.9 m from the ball carrier.
  3. Count passes in a row; swap the defender after 60 seconds or a touch.

Coaching points

  • Without the ball, move to a space where there is a clear line to the passer.
  • Spread out: two attackers next to each other are easy to defend.
  • Pass early and simply; you have 3 seconds, not forever.
  • Defender: one big step back from the ball carrier, arms up.

Common mistakes

  • Standing still behind the defender and waiting.
  • Running with the ball after the catch.
  • Defender rushing in closer than 0.9 m.

Say it: “Move to space, see the line, pass.”

Make it harder

  • Make the square smaller, or add a second defender (3v2).
  • Bounce passes only, or no passing back to the player you got it from.

Make it easier

  • Make the square bigger.
  • Defender walks only.
