Setup
- Groups of three or four: one feeder, the rest in a line 8 m away.
- Put a catch cone halfway between the line and the feeder.
How it runs
- The first player jogs to the cone and calls for the ball.
- The feeder gives a soft chest pass; the player catches, lands and freezes for two seconds.
- They pass back to the feeder and jog to the back of the line.
- Swap the feeder every six goes.
Coaching points
- Hands out early, fingers spread like a 'W' behind the ball.
- Catch with two hands and pull the ball in to the chest.
- Land on one or two feet, knees bent, and hold still like a statue.
- Eyes on the ball all the way into the hands.
Common mistakes
- Taking extra steps after the catch.
- Catching with straight, stiff arms so the ball bounces off.
- Snatching at the ball with one hand.
Say it: “Catch, land, statue!”
Make it harder
- Jog faster onto the ball and land one foot then the other.
- Feeder throws a little high or wide so players stretch to catch.
Make it easier
- Walk to the cone instead of jogging.
- Feeder hands or rolls the ball instead of passing.
