Setup
- For each pair, mark a 20 m channel with a start cone, a cone in the middle as the "defender" and a 2 m gate at the end.
- The wall player stands level with the middle cone, about 4 m to one side.
How it runs
- The runner dribbles at the middle cone and passes to the wall player.
- The runner sprints past the cone; the wall plays it back first time into the space beyond it.
- The runner controls on the move and dribbles through the end gate. Swap roles and come back.
Coaching points
- Pass and go - the run starts the moment the ball leaves your foot.
- Wall, open your body and pass into the space in front of the runner, not to their feet.
- Runner, take the first touch forward, in your stride.
Common mistakes
- Passing and then standing to watch.
- The wall player passing back too hard or behind the runner.
Say it: “Pass and go. Into space, not to feet.”
Make it harder
- Make the middle cone a real defender who can only walk.
- Wall player one touch; runner has two touches to get through the gate.
Make it easier
- The wall player can take a touch before passing back.
- Move the wall player closer, about 3 m from the cone.
