Setup
- Channels 5 m wide across the centre third; a feeder (F1) at one end with the ball.
- In each channel an attacker (GA) and a defender (gd) starting side by side.
How it runs
- GA dodges and changes direction to get free for a lead to F1.
- gd tags them: tight, ball side, shuffling to stay with every move.
- If GA is clear, F1 passes; if not within 3 seconds, F1 calls reset.
- Five goes, then swap; score a point for each lead gd denies.
Coaching points
- Watch the attacker's hips, not the head or the feet.
- Short, quick shuffle steps; never cross the feet.
- Stay about an arm's length off, body in three-quarter on the ball side.
- Tag with the feet, not the hands: no holding or contact.
Common mistakes
- Standing too square and getting beaten on the turn.
- Grabbing or leaning on the attacker.
- Watching the feeder and losing the attacker.
Say it: “Watch the hips, quick feet.”
Make it harder
- F1 moves along the end line to change the angle.
- Attacker gets two leads in one go.
Make it easier
- Attacker at three-quarter pace.
- Shorter channel.
