Setup
- Groups of three: a target at a cone, two throwers in a line 8 to 10 m away.
- Two lead cones either side of the target, 3 m apart.
How it runs
- The target leads to a side cone and shows two hands up high.
- The first thrower shoulder passes to the hands; the target catches, lands and chest-passes back.
- The thrower passes to the next in line and runs out to be the new target.
- The old target jogs to the back of the line.
Coaching points
- Ball held back beside the ear on a spread hand, other hand steadying it.
- Step forward on the opposite foot to the throwing arm.
- Push through with the throwing arm and point at the target after release.
- Target: hands up early and wide apart so the thrower has something to aim at.
Common mistakes
- Throwing off the same foot as the throwing arm.
- Ball dropped low behind the back so the pass loops.
- Target showing hands too late.
Say it: “Opposite foot, push, point.”
Make it harder
- Move the throwers back to 12 m.
- The target keeps leading and the thrower passes ahead, into space.
Make it easier
- Throw from 6 m.
- Practise the action standing still before adding the lead.
