Setup
- Groups of three at a post: a shooter, a feeder and a rebounder.
- Flat spots 1 to 2 m from the post; the shooter starts on one.
How it runs
- The feeder passes in; the shooter catches, lands and faces the post.
- The shooter lifts the ball, bends the knees and shoots.
- The rebounder catches under the ring and passes back to the feeder.
- Five shots each, then rotate jobs and move to a new spot.
Coaching points
- Feet shoulder-width apart, both pointing at the post.
- Ball sits on the fingertips of the shooting hand, above the head; other hand at the side to steady it.
- Elbow under the ball, eyes on the back of the ring.
- Bend the knees, then straighten and flick the wrist so the ball spins backwards.
Common mistakes
- Ball resting on the palm instead of the fingertips.
- Pushing the ball from in front of the face like a chest pass.
- Straight legs, so all the power comes from the arms.
Say it: “Fingertips, bend, flick.”
Make it harder
- Shoot from a spot 3 m out.
- Score three in a row before moving spot.
Make it easier
- Lower the ring or shoot at a hoop held up by the coach.
- Shoot without the feed: start with the ball already above the head.
