Setup

  1. GK stands just behind the backline with the ball; gs marks 0.9 m away.
  2. GD in the circle, WD and C in the defensive third, each marked by ga, wa and c.
  3. Agree the play: WD first to the sideline, GD second out of the circle, C third.

How it runs

  1. GK has 3 seconds to throw in once set; WD drives to the sideline for the first pass.
  2. GD clears, then drives out of the circle into the space WD left for the second pass.
  3. C leads into the centre third for the third pass; play ends when C catches.
  4. Run it five times, then swap so the defenders throw in.

Coaching points

  • GK: step in after the throw so you are a back-up option.
  • Leads go into space the thrower can see and reach.
  • One player drives at a time; the next one waits, then goes.

Common mistakes

  • GK stepping onto the court before releasing the ball.
  • Receivers bunching near the thrower and closing their own space.
  • Lobbing high over the defenders instead of passing to space.

Say it: “Clear, drive, and the thrower steps in.”

Make it harder

  • Defenders choose to zone the space or mark one-on-one.
  • Throw-in from either side of the ring, picked by the coach.

Make it easier

  • Defenders start 2 m off their player.
  • Remove c so C is a free outlet.
