- 12 cones16 balls (one each)
Setup
- Set up lanes 10 m long and 5 m apart, each with a start cone and a turn cone.
- Two or three players per lane, each with a ball, at the start cone.
How it runs
- The coach calls a turn. The first player dribbles to the turn cone, does the turn and dribbles back.
- The turns: inside hook (inside of the foot), outside hook (outside of the foot), drag-back (sole pulls it back).
- When a player is back, the next one goes. Do each turn 4 or 5 times, with each foot.
- Finish with a race - any turn you like, first lane done wins.
Coaching points
- Slow down just before the cone so the ball is close when you turn.
- Take the ball with you as you turn, keeping it within a step.
- After the turn, speed away - slow in, fast out.
Common mistakes
- Arriving too fast so the ball runs past the cone.
- Running around the ball instead of turning it with you.
Say it: “Slow in, turn, fast out.”
Make it harder
- The coach calls the turn late, just as players reach the cone.
- Put a defender at the turn cone who can only walk; turn away from them.
Make it easier
- Walk through each turn first, then jog.
- Turn anywhere in a 2 m box around the cone.
