Setup
- For each team, set a 25 m lane: a start cone, four gates 1.5 m wide and 4 m apart, and an end cone.
- Teams of three or four line up behind their start cone; the first player has the ball.
How it runs
- On "Go!", dribble through every gate, round the end cone and dribble straight back down the outside.
- Stop the ball on the start line with your sole; the next player takes it and goes.
- The first team with everyone back and sitting down wins. Rest a minute, then race again.
Coaching points
- Small touches through the gates, bigger pushes on the way back.
- Steer with the inside and outside of both feet.
- Eyes up between gates to see the next one.
Common mistakes
- Kicking the ball too hard and missing a gate. Miss one and you go back and do it again.
- Rushing the handover - the ball must be stopped before the next player goes.
Say it: “Little touches through. Big touches home.”
Make it harder
- Weaker foot only through the gates.
- Make the gates 1 m wide.
Make it easier
- Use three gates, 2 m wide.
- Do one practice run at walking pace before the race.
