Setup

  1. One goal with a keeper. Mark a central spot 20 m out and a wide spot level with the corner of the box.
  2. Three players form a wall 9 m from the ball. Use mannequins if you have them.
  3. Two takers, two runners, and two defenders for the wide kick.

How it runs

  1. Central kick: A2 runs over the ball as a dummy, then A1 shoots. Two runners follow in.
  2. Wide kick: whip it in between the defenders and the keeper for the runners to attack.
  3. A direct goal is 2 points. A goal from a rebound or a delivery is 1 point.
  4. Six kicks from each spot, then rotate takers, wall and runners.

Coaching points

  • Taker, pick your target before you run up. Over the wall, or round it to the keeper's side.
  • Strike through the ball and land on your kicking foot. Don't lean back.
  • Wall, cover the near post; the keeper covers the other half.
  • Runners, follow every shot in. Keepers spill more than you think.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning back and blazing it over the bar.
  • The wall turns its back or jumps too early.
  • Runners stop to watch the shot.

Say it: “Pick a spot, strike through it, follow it in.”

Make it harder

  • Move the ball 3 m further out.
  • The wall jumps on every kick.

Make it easier

  • Use a two-player wall.
  • Move the ball 3 m closer and straight on.
