Setup
- Use half a pitch with a goal and keeper.
- Three attackers line up on halfway, one central with the ball and two wide.
- Two defenders start about 25 m from goal. The next groups queue on halfway.
How it runs
- The central attacker drives forward and the 3v2 is live.
- Attackers have 10 seconds to score.
- Defenders score by winning it and passing to the coach on halfway.
- Rotate after each go. Attackers defend next, defenders join the queue.
Coaching points
- Ball carrier, drive at speed and run straight at a defender to fix them.
- Wide runners, stay wide and keep running. Make the defenders choose.
- Pass when a defender commits to you, not before and not too late.
- Someone always attacks the far post.
Common mistakes
- The ball carrier drifts wide and lets the defenders off.
- Runners drift inside and bunch up near the ball.
- Too many passes, and the 10 seconds run out.
Say it: “Drive, stretch, commit, finish.”
Make it harder
- A third defender chases back from halfway 2 seconds after the start.
- Score within 7 seconds.
Make it easier
- Play 3v1 so attackers learn to commit the defender.
- Defenders start deeper, 15 m from goal.
