Setup
- A shooting line on the right wing with the ball, a rebounding line on the left wing.
- Cones mark the start of each line, about 6 m from the basket.
How it runs
- First shooter dribbles in with the right hand and lays up off the backboard.
- First rebounder catches the ball and passes out to the next shooter.
- Shooters join the rebound line and rebounders join the shooting line.
- After five each, move the shooting line to the left side and use the left hand.
Coaching points
- Right side: right-left-up, jump off the left foot, right knee and right hand up.
- Left side: left-right-up, jump off the right foot, left knee and left hand up.
- Aim high at the top corner of the small square on the backboard.
- Rebounder catches with two hands before it bounces twice.
Common mistakes
- Jumping off the wrong foot on the weak side.
- Taking an extra step at the end, which is a travel.
- Jumping forward under the ring instead of up towards it.
Say it: “Right side: right-left-up. Left side: left-right-up.”
Make it harder
- Start from half court at game speed.
- Coach holds a pad as light contact on the way up.
Make it easier
- No dribble: start one step away, step-step-up with the ball held.
- Use a lower ring (2.6 m) if the hall has one.
