- Half court

- 3 basketballs (size 5 under 12, size 6 or 7 older)
Setup
- Coach at the free-throw line with a ball.
- Pairs on each side of the key: the attacker about 4 m out, the defender a step inside, between them and the basket.
How it runs
- Coach shoots; defenders turn, find their attacker and make contact with their back.
- Hold the box out for a count of two, then go to the ball.
- Grab the rebound with two hands, chin it and pass out to the coach.
- Defensive rebound scores 1, offensive rebound scores 2. Swap roles after five shots.
Coaching points
- Find a body first: see your attacker, step towards them and pivot into them.
- Low and wide, elbows out, backside into their thighs.
- Then go to the ball: jump with two hands up and grab it at its highest point.
- Chin it: elbows out, ball under the chin, no swinging elbows.
Common mistakes
- Watching the ball and forgetting to find the attacker.
- Standing upright so the attacker pushes past.
- Boxing out too far under the basket, so the ball goes over the defender's head.
Say it: “Find a body, then find the ball.”
Make it harder
- Attackers start moving as the coach shoots.
- Two coaches shoot from different spots so the bounce changes.
Make it easier
- Attackers walk in at half speed.
- Practise the turn and contact without a shot first.
