Setup

  1. One shooter at the free-throw line; up to four players on the lane spots, defenders on the spots nearest the basket.
  2. A coach under the free-throw line with the ball; everyone else at halfway.

How it runs

  1. The shooter sprints to halfway and back, then steps to the line and gets the ball from the coach.
  2. The same routine every shot: feet set, two dribbles, a breath, eyes on the front of the rim, shoot.
  3. Lane players stay out until the ball leaves the shooter's hand, then box out for the rebound.
  4. Two shots each; the group scores a point per make and tries to beat its last total.

Coaching points

  • Same routine, same rhythm, every time: no rushing after a sprint.
  • Shooting foot lined up with the rim, elbow under the ball.
  • Hold the follow-through until the ball lands.

Common mistakes

  • Changing the routine after a miss.
  • Stepping over the line before the ball hits the rim.
  • Lane players moving early (a violation in a game).

Say it: “Set, two bounces, breathe, shoot.”

Make it harder

  • Shoot after a 20-second sprint, tired legs like late in a game.
  • One-and-one: miss the first and the group runs.

Make it easier

  • No sprint, no lane players: routine and shot only.
  • Shoot from a step in front of the line.
