Setup
- Pairs face each other on the backhand side of the court (for two right-handers).
- Two cones in each backhand corner, past the service line, mark the target.
How it runs
- Start with a drop feed; rally backhands crosscourt only.
- A ball past the service line and inside the singles sideline keeps the count going.
- 10 in a row wins the round; a miss resets to zero.
- After two rounds, swap to the forehand diagonal so both players practise the other side.
Coaching points
- Turn the shoulders early so the back of the front shoulder faces the net.
- Both hands drive through; the top hand does the work.
- Contact beside the front hip, then finish high over the shoulder.
- Recover a step towards the centre after every shot.
Common mistakes
- Letting go with the top hand and slapping with the bottom arm.
- Hitting late, so the ball drifts down the line.
- Crowding the ball instead of moving the feet to make space.
Say it: “Turn, drive, finish high.”
Make it harder
- Only balls landing between the cones count.
- After 4 in a row, either player may change down the line and play the point out.
Make it easier
- Rally inside the service boxes first.
- Count any ball in the singles court.
