Cool-down and review
Bring the heart rate down with an easy lap and gentle stretches, then finish with a quick group review.
Start / 5
- Time
- 8 min
- Players
- 1–16
- Age
- U10+
- Area
- Full court
Setup
- Rackets and balls packed away at the side of the court first.
How it runs
- Walk or easy-jog one lap of the court lines, then walk a second lap.
- Gather in a circle at the net for gentle stretches, about 20 seconds each.
- Stretch the shoulders, forearms and wrists, quads, hamstrings and calves.
- Review: each player names one thing that went well and one thing to practise next time.
- The coach finishes with the one key message from the session.
Coaching points
- Slow, steady breathing; the lap should feel easy.
- Hold each stretch still; no bouncing.
- Stretch to mild tension, never pain.
- Keep the review short and specific: 'I turned early on my forehand.'
Common mistakes
- Rushing the stretches to get to the next thing.
- Review answers that are too general, like 'it was good'.
Say it: “Slow down, stretch, reflect.”
Make it harder
- Players lead a stretch each and explain which muscle it targets.
- Set a personal goal for next session and write it down.
Make it easier
- Walk the lap only.
- Coach leads every stretch and asks one review question.
