- 12 balls
Setup
- Net player starts on their service line with a ball.
- Baseliner starts in the middle of the far baseline.
How it runs
- Net player drop-feeds an approach down the line and closes in.
- Baseliner must pass or lob; the point is played out.
- The baseliner scores 2 for a winning lob or pass, 1 for any other point won.
- First to 7, then swap roles.
Coaching points
- Pass low and dipping, so the volley has to be hit up.
- Lob over the backhand side, high enough to clear the racket.
- Use two shots: a low ball at the feet, then the pass or lob.
- Recover to the middle of the possible angles after each shot.
Common mistakes
- Trying to hit the pass too hard and too flat.
- Short lobs that sit up for a smash.
- Always going the same way, so the net player can guess.
Say it: “Low, or over.”
Make it harder
- The net player starts one step closer to the net.
- Only outright winners score for the baseliner.
Make it easier
- Net player volleys back to the baseliner for two balls before the point is live.
- Net player isn't allowed to smash.
