Setup
- Both pairs stand side by side, halfway between the net and the service line.
- Points are played in the full doubles court.
How it runs
- One player feeds a soft volley to start; the first three volleys are cooperative.
- From the fourth volley the point is live.
- Keep the ball low and through the middle; finish any ball that pops up.
- Lobs are allowed; smash them if they're short.
- First pair to 11; the feed alternates between the pairs.
Coaching points
- Racket up in front, ready position between every volley.
- Volley down at the opponents' feet or through the gap between them.
- Middle ball: the player whose forehand is in the middle takes it, unless the partner calls it first.
- Step in together when your pair hits a good, low volley.
Common mistakes
- Swinging at the volley instead of a short punch.
- Both players leaving the middle ball.
- Hitting a high ball back softly instead of finishing it.
Say it: “Low, middle, finish the high one.”
Make it harder
- One team starts on the service line, the other halfway in.
- Only volleys that land inside the service line count.
Make it easier
- Six cooperative volleys before the point is live.
- Play the points in the singles court.
