Setup

  1. Pairs facing, at kicking distance, in gear.

How it runs

  1. Attacker throws a roundhouse to the body; defender blocks and counters with a back kick.
  2. Three attacks, three counters, swap.
  3. Then free the attack: any kick, same counters.

Coaching points

  • Block and move, don't stand and block.
  • Counter in the attacker's recovery.
  • Control the contact.

Common mistakes

  • Backing straight up.
  • Counter too late.

Say it: “Block, angle, counter.”

Make it harder

  • Attacker throws a combination.
  • Defender chooses the counter.

Make it easier

  • Attack at half speed.
  • Block only, no counter.
