Random placement control
One player places the ball anywhere on the table; the other moves to every ball and returns it to one spot.
Start / 6
- Time
- 12 min
- Players
- 2–4
- Age
- U11+
- Area
- One table and the space behind it
- Equipment
- 6 balls1 ball net or pick-up tube
Setup
- The controller (P2) stands at the right end, on the backhand side.
- The worker (P1) starts in a ready stance a little to the backhand side of the left end.
- Clear the floor behind both ends; P1 will be moving fast across it.
How it runs
- P1 plays every ball to P2's backhand corner, using forehand or backhand drives.
- P2 places each return anywhere on P1's half (wide forehand, the elbow or the backhand corner) at a steady, controlled pace.
- Rally for 60 to 90 seconds, rest, then swap. Count the misses and try to beat that count next time.
- Start with P2 using two-thirds of the table, then open it to the whole table.
Coaching points
- Read the direction from P2's bat angle and move early.
- After each shot, recover to a central ready position rather than guessing a side.
- Choose forehand or backhand early on balls to the elbow; hesitation causes most errors there.
- Control first: medium pace with a safe height over the net.
Common mistakes
- Guessing a side and getting caught going the wrong way.
- Hitting harder to make up for being late.
- Flat feet: waiting to see where the ball goes before moving.
Say it: “Read, move, recover.”
Make it harder
- P1 must alternate the target between P2's two corners.
- P2 raises the pace or mixes in a short ball.
Make it easier
- P2 uses only two-thirds of the table.
- P2 calls the side out loud as each ball is played.
