Setup

  1. Pairs; one player's end has a line of balls ready for restarts.

How it runs

  1. Player A pushes backspin; player B opens with a loop; A blocks; play on.
  2. Ten starts each, then swap roles.
  3. Score an opening loop that lands and a block that holds.

Coaching points

  • Push: brush under the ball, bat open.
  • Loop: low to high from the legs, brush the ball.
  • Block: bat closed, let the ball come to you.

Common mistakes

  • Looping into the net because the backspin is read late.
  • Blocking with an open bat.

Say it: “Brush, don't hit.”

Make it harder

  • Loop to a specific corner.
  • Blocker can counter-loop.

Make it easier

  • Push rally only.
  • Hand-fed backspin ball.
