Setup
- Coach feeds multiball from beside the far end of the table, with the bucket on a stand or chair out of the player's path.
- Waiting players collect balls behind the coach, never from under the working player's feet.
How it runs
- Coach feeds topspin to the backhand corner; the player pivots and plays a forehand.
- The next feed goes wide to the forehand; the player covers it and returns to the centre.
- Sets of 8 to 10 balls, then rest while the next player works.
- Clear the floor of loose balls between sets.
- Progress: the coach feeds the two corners in a random order.
Coaching points
- Right-handers: a small step left with the left foot, then swing the right foot back and round so the body turns side-on.
- Get far enough round that the ball is in front of the right hip, not jammed against the body.
- Use the legs and hips; the arm finishes the stroke.
- After the pivot, push off the outside foot to get back; the wide forehand is the gap.
Common mistakes
- Reaching for the ball with the arm instead of moving the feet.
- Pivoting too late and hitting with a cramped elbow.
- Admiring the pivot shot and getting caught by the wide ball.
Say it: “Step round, side-on, hips through.”
Make it harder
- Random feeds between the backhand corner, the elbow and the wide forehand.
- Faster feeds with less time between balls.
Make it easier
- Only the backhand-corner feed, with a pause to reset after each pivot.
- Shadow the footwork without a ball first.
