Setup

  1. Attacking team: four outfield players plus a fly goalkeeper (FG) in a goalkeeper-coloured shirt with their own number.
  2. Set up 3-2: FG at the top, two players high and wide, two low near the posts.
  3. Defending team: four in a box or diamond and a goalkeeper. The attackers' own goal is empty.

How it runs

  1. Coach starts each attack with a ball to FG at halfway.
  2. Attackers have 40 seconds to score.
  3. If the defenders win it, they shoot at the empty goal from where they are.
  4. Attackers who lose it sprint back; the nearest player runs straight for the empty goal.
  5. Play 8 attacks, then swap teams.

Coaching points

  • Move the ball faster than the box can slide: one or two touches.
  • Every pass should pull a defender out of shape. Look for the player left free.
  • Switch play early, before the defenders reset.
  • Low players: stay wide of the posts, ready to arrive at the second post.
  • No risky pass across the middle. A turnover there is a goal in your empty net.
  • FG stays in the opposition half. In their own half, the goalkeeper limits apply: 4 seconds and the pass-back rule.
  • Shoot only when the shot is on. A blocked shot is a counter at your empty goal.

Common mistakes

  • Slow passing sideways that lets the box stay compact.
  • Low players standing in front of the goalkeeper with no angle to receive.
  • Forcing a pass through the middle of the diamond.
  • Nobody reacting when the ball is lost.

Say it: “Move it, drag them, find the free one.”

Make it harder

  • Two-touch limit.
  • Only 25 seconds to score.
  • Defenders get a point for every pass they block.

Make it easier

  • Defenders passive for the first two passes.
  • No time limit until the shape is clear.
