Setup
- A queue of attackers with balls at halfway, a wall player (A2) at the edge of the 10 m zone.
- A passive defender (D1) between the queue and goal, and a goalkeeper.
How it runs
- A1 dribbles at D1 to commit them.
- A1 passes into A2 and sprints past D1 on the other side.
- A2 sets it back first time into A1's path, and A1 finishes in stride.
- A1 becomes the wall player; A2 joins the queue.
Coaching points
- Go at the defender: make them step to you before you pass.
- Pass firm and to the wall player's far foot.
- Sprint straight after the pass; the pass and the run are one action.
- Wall player: open body, first-time set into space, not to feet.
- Finish early: toe-poke or laces before the keeper sets.
Common mistakes
- Passing too early, so the defender doesn't commit.
- Watching the pass instead of running.
- Return pass played behind the runner.
Say it: “Commit, pass, sprint.”
Make it harder
- D1 is fully active and can intercept.
- Finish within three seconds of the first pass.
Make it easier
- Use a cone instead of a defender.
- Runner can take a touch before shooting.
