Ball mastery: sole rolls and pulls
Every player has a ball and works through sole rolls, pull-backs and stops to own the ball with the bottom of the foot.

- Players
- 1–16
- Age

- Area
- 15 × 15 m
- Equipment
- 4 cones16 futsal balls (size 3 or 4, low-bounce)
Setup
- Mark a 15 × 15 m square with four cones.
- One ball per player, everyone spread out inside the square.
- Coach stands on the edge where every player can see.
How it runs
- Coach shows a move, then players copy it for 30 seconds.
- Sole roll: roll the ball sideways under the sole, then back again.
- Pull-back: drag the ball back with the sole, stepping back with it, then push it forward.
- Roll and go: roll it across with the sole, then dribble off into a new space.
- On 'Stop!', every player puts the sole on top of the ball and freezes.
- Rest 15 seconds between moves and do every move with both feet.
Coaching points
- Light touch: the sole brushes the top of the ball.
- Up on the toes of the standing foot, knees bent.
- Eyes up between touches to find space.
- Use both feet, the weaker one too.
Common mistakes
- Stamping on the ball so it stops dead.
- Standing flat-footed and leaning back.
- Only using the stronger foot.
Say it: “Soft sole, eyes up.”
Make it harder
- Count the sole rolls in 20 seconds and try to beat the score.
- Join moves together: roll, pull back, turn.
- Make the square smaller so players have to dodge each other.
Make it easier
- Do each move standing still before moving.
- Fewer moves, more time on each.
