Setup

  1. A goalkeeper in each goal. Three attackers (A1–A3) at one end, two defenders (D1, D2) at the other.
  2. Spare players queue beside each goal, ready to join the next wave (D3 here).

How it runs

  1. A1–A3 attack 3v2 against D1 and D2.
  2. When the attack ends (goal, save or ball out), the keeper throws to the player joining from the end line.
  3. D1, D2 and the new player break 3v2 the other way against two of the attackers.
  4. The attacker who finished stays out and joins the queue. Keep it going for 8 minutes.

Coaching points

  • Attackers: ball carrier drives at the middle to make a defender commit.
  • Width on both sides; the pass goes to whoever the defenders leave.
  • Finish early, before the defence recovers.
  • Defenders: drop and stay compact, delay, and press together when the ball goes wide.
  • Switch on straight away: the moment the attack ends, sprint into the next role.
  • Keepers: throw out quickly, within 4 seconds, to start the break.

Common mistakes

  • Ball carrier passing before a defender has committed.
  • All three attackers in one line across the court.
  • Players walking between waves instead of sprinting.

Say it: “Drive, commit, release, switch.”

Make it harder

  • Attack must finish within 8 seconds.
  • A recovering defender can chase back to make it 3v3.

Make it easier

  • 3v1, then build to 3v2.
  • Defenders can't tackle until the ball crosses into their half.
