Setup

  1. A goal with a keeper.
  2. Two lines at halfway, one on each side, every player with a ball.
  3. A row of cones about 9 m from goal marks the shooting line.

How it runs

  1. First player in the left line dribbles towards goal and shoots before the cones.
  2. The shooter follows the shot in for any rebound.
  3. Keeper throws the ball out to the shooter, who joins the back of the other line.
  4. Next go comes from the right line, so the keeper has to move across.
  5. Swap keepers every 2 minutes so everyone has a turn.

Coaching points

  • Look up at the keeper before you shoot.
  • Aim low and into the corners; the far post is a good target.
  • Strike with the toe or the laces, body over the ball.
  • Always follow your shot in.

Common mistakes

  • Dribbling too close to the keeper before shooting.
  • Shooting straight at the keeper.
  • Stopping to watch the shot.

Say it: “Look, low, follow.”

Make it harder

  • Shoot with the weaker foot.
  • A defender starts on the goal line and comes out to block.
  • Shoot first time from a coach's pass.

Make it easier

  • Shoot a still ball from the cones.
  • Keeper stays on the goal line and only uses the feet.
