Setup
- A goalkeeper in goal. Strikers line up 30 m out, each with a ball.
- Put a cone gate 25 m out that the striker must dribble through to start.
- Have two keepers if you can, and swap them every 5 goes.
How it runs
- The striker dribbles through the gate and drives at goal; the keeper can leave the line as soon as the striker starts.
- The striker either finishes early or takes it round the keeper.
- The keeper scores a point for a save or for winning the ball. Next striker goes when the ball is dead.
Coaching points
- Striker, long touches in open space, shorter touches as the keeper gets close.
- Look up early; if the keeper is off their line, finish low to the side.
- Keeper, come out fast, then set your feet as the striker gets close.
- Keeper, stay big and make the save with your hands low and wide.
Common mistakes
- The striker looks down at the ball and doesn't see the keeper's position.
- Shooting straight at the keeper's body.
- The keeper diving early, before the striker commits.
Say it: “Look up. Shorten the touch. Low and to the side.”
Make it harder
- A defender chases the striker from 5 m behind.
- The striker has 5 seconds from the gate to finish.
Make it easier
- Start the striker 20 m out.
- The keeper must stay on the six-yard line.
