Setup
- Two sets of stumps 20 m apart; pairs with a bat each at either end.
How it runs
- The coach calls 'one', 'two' or 'three'; the pair runs it, grounding the bat past the crease each time.
- Run in sets of six calls, rest, then go again.
- Add 'wait' and 'no' calls to practise sending back.
Coaching points
- Call early and loud: 'yes', 'no' or 'wait'.
- Slide the bat in, don't stop short.
- Turn facing the ball with the bat in the hand closest to it.
Common mistakes
- Running without grounding the bat.
- Turning blind, back to the fielder.
Say it: “Call it, ground it.”
Make it harder
- A fielder throws at the stumps on the turn.
- Carry a ball in the other hand.
Make it easier
- Walk the turns.
- Shorter pitch.
