Net kill and net push
Read the shuttle's height at the net: kill it steeply when it's above the tape, push it flat into the mid-court when it's level with the tape.

Setup
- On the far side, mark a kill box in the middle just behind the short service line, and a push box in the mid-court by the singles sideline.
- The hitter stands just behind their own short service line, racket up.
- The coach feeds by hand or racket from the far side, standing near the net post, out of line of the kill box.
- Waiting players stand off court; no one stands on the far side in the line of the kills.
How it runs
- The coach feeds a mix of loose shuttles that rise above the tape and tight ones at tape height.
- Above the tape: kill it down into the kill box. Level with the tape: push it flat into the push box.
- The hitter takes a step back off the net after every shot. 12 feeds, then rotate.
Coaching points
- Racket up and in front before every feed; there's no time to lift it once the shuttle comes.
- Kill: short, sharp tap from the forearm and fingers, then check the racket so it stops before the net.
- Push: flat and firm, guided from the fingers, landing past the front of the court.
- Hit on your own side of the net; the follow-through may cross, but racket and body must not touch the net.
- Decide kill or push from the shuttle's height before the racket moves.
Common mistakes
- A big backswing on the kill, which catches the net or sends the shuttle long.
- Reaching over the net to hit, which is a fault.
- Trying to kill shuttles below the tape, which end up in the net.
- Dropping the racket between shots.
Say it: “Racket up: high, kill; level, push.”
Make it harder
- The coach feeds faster and alternates forehand and backhand sides.
- Add a receiver in the far rear court who tries to return pushes only; kills still go into the empty kill box.
Make it easier
- The coach calls kill or push before each feed.
- Forehand side only, with slower feeds.
