Multi-shuttle feeding: front court

A feeder sends a quick run of shuttles to the front corners; the player lunges in, plays a net shot, push or kill, and recovers to base each time.

Setup

  1. The feeder stands in the middle of their half, a couple of steps back from the net, holding a racket up for protection and the shuttles in the other hand.
  2. Mark two tight-net target zones near the net on the feeder's side, at the sidelines, and a push target in the mid-court, all away from the feeder.
  3. The hitter starts on a base slightly forward of centre in the other half.

How it runs

  1. The feeder throws or taps a shuttle to one of the front corners, just over the net.
  2. The hitter moves in, lunges and plays a tight net shot into the nearest net zone, then recovers to base.
  3. The next feed goes as the hitter reaches base. Sets of 10 to 12 shuttles, then swap.
  4. Feeds that come over higher are pushed flat into the push target or killed down into the floor to the side, never at the feeder.
  5. Waiting players collect shuttles only between sets.

Coaching points

  • Racket up and in front as you move, so you can take the shuttle near the top of the net.
  • Lunge with the racket-side foot leading, heel first, knee over the foot.
  • Use a short, gentle action for the net shot; let the racket face do the work.
  • Push back off the front foot to recover; don't stand up and walk back.
  • Choose the shot from the height of the shuttle: high means push or kill, low means net shot.

Common mistakes

  • Racket down by the knee, so every shuttle is taken low and has to be lifted.
  • Lunging off the wrong foot and twisting the knee.
  • Swinging at net shots so they fly long or high.
  • Recovering slowly and arriving late for the next feed.

Say it: “Racket up, lunge, push back.”

Make it harder

  • Feeder mixes in a feed to the mid-court sides that must be pushed.
  • Faster feeds: the next shuttle goes as soon as the hitter's lunge finishes.
  • Hitter must alternate straight and crosscourt net shots.

Make it easier

  • Feed to one corner only, and walk back to base between shuttles.
  • Feeder throws higher and slower, giving more time to get the racket up.
  • No targets; just get every shuttle back over the net.
