Setup
- Pair up and stand facing each other about 8 m apart, each on a cone.
- Spread the pairs out side by side, at least 5 m between pairs.
- One ball per pair.
How it runs
- Kick a drop punt to your partner's chest; they mark it and kick it back.
- Count the clean marks together.
- After five in a row, the receiver takes two steps back.
- If a kick goes wide, start again from 8 m.
Coaching points
- Hold the ball with the laces up and pointing at your partner.
- Guide the ball down with one hand and drop it, don't throw it.
- Kick through the ball and finish with your leg pointing at the target.
- Eyes on the ball until your foot hits it.
Common mistakes
- Tossing the ball up instead of guiding it down.
- Turning side-on, so the ball spins off the side of the boot.
- Kicking too hard and losing the drop punt shape.
Say it: “Laces up, guide it down, kick through.”
Make it harder
- Kick with the other foot.
- Take three steps in before you kick.
Make it easier
- Start at 5 m and just aim for clean drops.
- Let the receiver catch it any way they can.
